A SOAR survey of sexual abuse victims found that the vast majority of sex
crimes were perpetrated against children.
60% of the victims reported that they were first sexually abused
before the age of six.

Renovated in 2000, SOAR’s former garage is now a separate children’s
treatment space lovingly referred to as the “Cottage”

SOAR
child treatment
program
SOAR’s child treatment program is an individual and
family
therapy program that is formatted to allow for the unique situational and
developmental needs of each child. This format includes both family
and individual assessment and treatment as well as systematic follow up to
ensure that a child fully recovers from the crimes that have been
committed against them. Because a child processes traumatic
information differently as he or she grows older, parents will be
encouraged to make contact with our program for follow up as their child
completes pertinent developmental tasks. For example, a six year old
that is
raped may not be able to connect with the sexual content of her
trauma until she goes into puberty at age 12 or 13. Other children
will have new memories as they mature and still others will re-experience
trauma when life events mimic or recreate some of the setting involved in
their initial abuse
